Important changes effective 1 February 2019
Changes to General Safety Induction (White Card)

The General Construction Induction card or “White Card” provides new and existing workers with the basic understanding and knowledge needed to start or continue work within the building and construction industry.

This card was formerly known as a blue card.

If you weren’t aware already, as of 1 February 2019 changes to General Construction Induction (White) card will include…

  •  Registered training organisations (RTOs) approved by Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ) to issue white cards will only be approved to issue to students trained in Queensland. To meet this requirement students must have been physically located in Queensland during training.

  • All training must be delivered face to face. An exemption allowing online or distance delivery will only be available where the student is located at least 100 kilometres away from the nearest RTO offering face to face delivery.

  • An application for a replacement card must include a copy of a statement of attainment for either CPCCOHS1001A - Work safely in the construction industry or CPCCWHS1001 - Prepare to work safely in the construction industry and a declaration that the card was lost, stolen or destroyed.

  • Replacement white cards can no longer be issued for the original 30215QLD Course in general safety induction (construction industry) (QLD Blue Card) from February 2019.

Implications/Reasons:

  • No real implications apart from training providers having to staff up to do the training now face to face. For the consumer, it will mean that they have to attend college for an average Course duration of 7 hours rather than doing 20min online and attaining a white card that way.

  • Benefits are very much learner centric. Learners will benefit from face to face education.

  • The changes were made due to an apparent increase in workplace construction safety incidents nationally  providers making it far too easy to get a white card.

As we are aware a large number of construction workers in Australia use online training services based in Queensland, These changes will have implications for all those doing online White Card training across the country with Queensland based Training providers.
